Professor Charlie Bond is based in the School of Molecular Sciences at the University of Western Australia. Charlie studied Chemistry with Industrial Experience at the University in Manchester. After completing his PhD on the structure of proteins he pursued this field as a post-doctoral researcher in the Biochemistry Dept, University of Sydney and as a BBSRC David Phillips Research Fellow at the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, UK. He was recruited to UWA as a structural biologist in 2006. He has been an Associate Dean (Research) and Head of School, but mainly likes thinking and teaching about protein structure. In his research he seeks to understand how the spatial arrangement of biological molecules in complexes dictates their function. He is particularly interested in protein:nucleic acid interactions, and their functions in gene regulatory complexes in eukaryotes. He loves to collaborate, combining his expertise in crystallography, bioinformatics, biochemistry and molecular biology, with experts in cell biology and other biophysical techniques.
