About the Centre

The ARC Training Centre for Next Gen-Technologies for Biomedical Analysis is funded by the Australian Government through the Industrial Transformation Research Program. The Centre was awarded funds in 2021 and commenced in 2023 and is funded for 4 years.

Administration Organisation is within the School of Molecular Science at University of Western Australian based in Perth and is a collaboration with University of New South Wales, Monash University, University of Surrey and our industry partners.

The university-industry partnership will increase Australia’s manufacturing capability by fast tracking screening, by integrating 3D printing, advanced sensing, big data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence for the delivery of optimal solutions in diagnosis, treatment and wellbeing. The centre will deliver training in Industry 4.0 skills which will boost early-stage scale-up and accelerate the sector’s supply chain, which is pivotal for the Australian industries to maintain a competitive edge.

Centre Director

Dr Iyer leads a research program in the field of bionanotechnology. The team has made a significant impact in this field by integrating fundamental concepts of high-resolution imaging, polymer/materials chemistry, surface science, cell and molecular biology, nanotechnology and bioengineering.

Prof Richard Tilley

Deputy Director

Professor Richard Tilley is the Director of Electron Microscope Unit and a Professor in the School of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales. He graduated with a Master of Chemistry from Oxford University and then completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge, after which he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Toshiba basic R&D Centre, Tokyo. He leads a research team focused on the solution synthesis of nanocrystals for catalysis and biomedical imaging.

Prof Nico Voelcker

Monash University Node Leader

Professor Nico Voelcker was appointed as the Scientific Director of the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication and Director of the Australian National Fabrication Facility’s Victorian Node (ANFF-VIC) in February 2017. He is also currently a Professor at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) at Monash University and Science Leader at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Nico’s key research interest lies in the fabrication and surface modification of porous semiconductor materials for applications in biosensors, biochips, biomaterials and drug delivery. A core research activity in his laboratory is the study of porous silicon-based nanostructures and their surface chemistry. A current focus is the development of new nanostructured materials for biosensors, biochips, biomaterials and drug delivery.

Particular emphasis has been on annual budgets and business plans, multi-year forecasts, monthly tracking of finances, project and team workplans, project support and reporting other non-financial KPIs and general compliance and project governance.
